Your Adult Circumcision, Right Here in Melbourne
There are a number of reasons why men may choose to get circumcised at an adult age. Some require circumcision as a cure for conditions like phimosis (an overly tight foreskin) while others choose circumcision for personal reasons. Whatever the reason for your choice to have circumcision later in life, we will be pleased to consult with you and schedule a surgery at your convenience.
With our skin glue closure method, in addition to the standard suture technique, we are able to obtain an improved outcome without the typical multiple suture track marks in the skin. Adult circumcision procedures in our clinic can offer optimal results with the least discomfort.
For more information, or to schedule to speak with our doctor, please contact us today. Appointments are generally available within a short time and no referral is required. Our experienced Melbourne doctor specializes in circumcision for men of all ages.

Getting Circumcised at Your Age
We are often asked; “Am I too old to get circumcised?” and the answer is pretty much always “no”. Men and youth of all ages have the surgery in our adult circumcision clinic. You can also find additional information regarding circumcision for babies, boys and teens on dedicated pages on this website.

Before Adult Circumcision at our Melbourne Clinic
The day before your procedures please wash and shave around the base of the penis to ensure no hair is touching the foreskin.
The morning of your circumcision we recommend that you avoid coffee and other caffeinated beverages or stimulants. Bring your headphones and listen to your favourite relaxing music on your phone or other small music player during the surgery.
Please take two paracetamol tablets just before coming to the clinic.
Do your best to have a good sleep the night before and follow your normal breakfast routine (except for minimizing coffee) so that you will feel your normal self.
We recommend that you have someone come with you to drive you home.

Adult Circumcision FAQ
How long does the procedure take?
Does adult circumcision hurt?
How long does the recovery take?
When can I go back to work after an adult circumcision?
We recommend 2 weeks off from work for optimal healing. For those who work in a more physically demanding job that involves lots of walking and lower body movement (e.g., construction, gym instructor, retail workers), we recommend rest for 2-3 weeks before returning to work. If you are unsure about when you will be able to return to work, please advise Dr. Islam/Dr. Ali of your current work situation during your initial consultation.
What kind of activities can I do or not do?
When can I have sex or masturbate?

After the Procedure
Patients should arrange to have someone drive them home after the procedure.
Mild swelling and pain in the penis is normal, and can last up to 10-14 days for some patients. This can be controlled with the pain relievers we prescribe to patients to use during their recovery.
You will have a dressing over the head of your penis. Please follow the doctor’s directions about when to remove it.
Wear snug fitting underwear and/or and athletic supporter that will hold the penis upright and stable. This will help the swelling go down.
We recommend two weeks off work for optimal healing.
Some men can return to sedentary work soon as a week after their circumcision. You will need to wait longer before returning to physical work.
A detailed care sheet will be provided with specific instructions to follow after your operation. The information on this page gives you a general idea about how long it will take for you to recover, but each person recovers at a different pace. Follow the care instructions to heal as fast as possible.
Dr. Islam or Dr. Ali will address your specific case and your detailed questions.
Post Circumcision Activity & Care
Rest when you feel tired. Getting enough sleep will help you recover fast. You may shower when you no longer have a bandage on your penis. Pat the cut (incision) dry. You may also take short baths if you wish.
Avoid physical labour and strenuous activities, such as working out, bicycle riding, jogging, weight lifting, or aerobic exercise, for 4 to 6 weeks post-procedure, or until your doctor says it is okay. You can return to work and normal activities, including driving, when you are comfortable doing them.
What to eat after circumcision as an adult
You can eat your normal diet. If your stomach is upset, try bland, low-fat foods like plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, and yogurt. Drink plenty of fluids (unless your doctor tells you not to). There is no medical reason to change from your usual meals in the days after getting circumcised. You will likely prefer to eat at home at least for the first day or two to maximize your comfort.
Incision care
Remove any dressing when your doctor says it is okay. Do this by soaking it off in a warm bath. Wear underwear that is comfortable for you. After the first few days, some men continue to prefer a snug fit for support, while others prefer loose-fitting briefs. Do what feels best for you.
Ice and elevation
Put ice or a cold pack on your groin for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Try to do this every 1 to 2 hours for the first day. Put a thin cloth between the ice and your skin. Position your penis so that your underwear keeps it upright.
Sex After Circumcision
Medications After Circumcision
Your doctor will tell you if and when you can restart your medications. He will also give you instructions about taking any new medications.
If you take blood thinners, be sure to talk to your doctor. He or she will tell you if and when to start taking those medications again. Make sure that you understand exactly what your doctor wants you to do.
Take pain medications exactly as directed. If the doctor gave you a prescription medication for pain, take it as prescribed. If you are not taking a prescription pain medication, ask your doctor if you can take an over-the-counter medication.
Do not take two or more pain medications at the same time unless the doctor told you to. Many pain medicines have paracetamol, which is Panadol. Too much Panadol can be harmful.
If you think your pain medicine is making you sick to your stomach:
- Take your medicine after meals (unless your doctor has told you not to).
- Ask your doctor for a different pain medicine.
